To support local Cancer and Leukaemia services by providing funds to enhance and improve patient care.
With Founder and Hon Trustee Michael Douglas set up The Chartwell Children’s Cancer Trust (formerly CCT Tiger Ward) in 2015 having been introduced to Catherine Wilde, Lead Macmillan Paediatric Oncology Clinical Nurse specialist and her amazing team on the children’s Tiger Cancer & Leukaemia Ward, Queen Elizabeth Hospital. As soon as he walked into the Tiger Ward, he immediately wanted to help. He saw how it was for Catherine and her team to be such a big part of these courageous children’s lives and how they are all one big family in the fight against cancer. He decided that the children deserved the same facilities as those provided by the charities that support the Royal Marsden and Great Ormond Street Hospitals.
The Chartwell Children’s Cancer Trust consists of Managing Trustees and Group Trustees. The Group Trustees meet on a monthly basis to discuss various fundraising opportunities. All of the Trustees are Volunteers.
Michael Douglas contracted leukaemia in 2003 and fortunately, the team in the Chartwell Unit got him out of trouble. Michael is Hon Trustee and Founder of sister charity The Chartwell Cancer Trust that was set up in 2005 to raise funds for additional medical staff specifically for the Chartwell Cancer and Leukaemia Unit. His leukaemia did return in 2008 but the Chartwell Team thankfully got him out of trouble again. He is currently enjoying good health.
